Colony builds
Colony schematics drawn floor by floor, from the first latrine to rocket silos, with power, heat and materials summed from the buildings placed.
Three coal generators share one floor with a storage bin for their coal, and the carbon dioxide they exhale settles on that floor instead of reaching the batteries one level down.
The dining floor holds six mess tables, a water cooler and a pedestal, with hanging pots and ceiling lights fixed to the slab above, which makes it a Great Hall. The washroom below keeps its sinks by the door so every duplicant washes on the way out.
Three farm floors of fourteen farm tiles each stand on the ladder shaft, every floor three tiles tall so duplicants walk under the crop above, and the kitchen at the bottom turns the harvest into meals on the grill.
Four floors on one ladder shaft carry six duplicants through the first cycles: cots on top, a mess hall, a latrine with the wash basin by the door, and a workshop with the research station, the manual generator and six planter boxes of mealwood at the bottom.
Each floor is a 32-cell room four tiles tall with one comfy bed, a flower pot and a light, which meets every Bedroom requirement, and the shared ladder shaft keeps all three doors one step from the base.
A lit farm of fourteen bristle blossoms on farm tiles forms the roof of the kitchen, where the grill, the spice grinder and two refrigerators make it a Kitchen room. The mess hall sits under it, so food travels one floor from cooker to table.
The ward floor holds two triage cots, a sick bay, a mess table and its own lavatory, which is everything a Hospital room asks for, so a sick duplicant eats and relieves itself without spreading germs through the base. The apothecary and the disease clinic work one floor down beside a sink.
The geyser stays sealed in its rock pocket and a gas pump near the ceiling draws its natural gas into two generators behind a tile wall. Their carbon dioxide sinks to the generator floor while the smart battery switches them off when it is full, so dormant months do not drain the reserve.
Two electrolyzers split water in a sealed room where hydrogen rises to the ceiling pump and oxygen pools around the floor pump. The hydrogen burns in the generator one floor down, and its 800 W covers both electrolyzers and both pumps.
Two stables of 64 cells each hold five hatches apiece with a grooming station, a feeder, an incubator and a drop-off, so no pen is overcrowded. The coal they excrete feeds two coal generators on the floor below.
Three electrolyzers make 2.66 kg of oxygen a second, enough for 24 duplicants. Two ceiling pumps take the hydrogen that gathers at the top for three hydrogen generators on the floor below, and two floor pumps send the oxygen to the base, leaving about 1 kW spare for the smart battery.
A row of metal tiles bridges a magma pool and a vacuum-insulated boiler: crude oil dripped from the liquid vent lands on the hot tiles and turns into petroleum, which pools against the far wall where the liquid pump lifts it to two petroleum generators upstairs.
The thermo aquatuner stands on the insulated floor of a steam chamber and dumps the coolant loop's heat into the steam through four tempshift plates. The turbine sits on the chamber's ceiling and draws steam through the five cells under that ceiling, so it deletes the heat and returns most of the aquatuner's power.
The gold volcano stays on its obsidian bed inside an insulated steam chamber. Molten gold heats the steam as it cools into ore, two robo-miners on the chamber floor collect the ore, and two turbines on the ceiling turn the eruption heat into power.
The research reactor stands on the insulated floor of a steam chamber and releases its heated coolant there as steam. Three turbines side by side on the chamber's ceiling cover fifteen intake cells, enough to keep a running reactor below meltdown while it powers the base.
Petroleum dripped into a vacuum-insulated boiler over magma-heated metal tiles boils into sour gas, which rises to the pump at the top. In the condenser next door a super coolant loop holds the room below -162.5 °C, so the sour gas falls out as liquid methane and sulfur; the methane is pumped out, warms into natural gas and runs two generators, while the aquatuner chilling the loop dumps its heat into a steam chamber whose turbine returns power.
The platform carries a petroleum engine, a large liquid fuel tank, a large solid oxidizer tank, a spacefarer module and a nosecone, all centred on the engine. Liquid and solid loaders beside the platform refuel it between flights.
The steam engine stands on the silo floor and offers the attachment point for the research module, which in turn carries the command capsule. Every module is centred on the engine, as the game requires before it lets the next one attach.
