Moo Asteroid guide: Gassy Moos, Gas Grass and chlorine

AsteroidsMedium

How to bring Gassy Moos home from their asteroid, with three in-game seeds.

The Moo Asteroid is the home of Gassy Moo (Gassy Moos): a 96 × 80 cell planetoid of igneous rock and granite with caverns full of Gas Grass and Chlorine Gas. The game names it the natural breeding ground of Gassy Moos thanks to its Gas Grass and natural gas.

Every sample held 9 to 16 Gassy Moos and 31 to 55 Gas Grass plants, plus a guaranteed Chlorine Gas Vent.

A planetoid like this one is generated from the seed number alone: the samples below came out identical in every cluster that used the same seed, and only the distance from the start changed.

World traitsNone or one random trait.

Strengths

  • Gassy Moos, the critter that turns Gas Grass into natural gas and milk.
  • Gas Grass plants to replant at home.
  • Strong sunlight (80,000 lux) for solar panels on an outpost.
  • Chlorine, as gas and as solid chlorine, for disinfection.

Weaknesses

  • Chlorine atmosphere: Duplicants need suits.
  • No water, food or metal worth mining.
  • High cosmic radiation (312 rads) at the surface.

What to target first after landing

  1. Land with Atmo Suits and capture a few Gassy Moos.
  2. Collect Gas Grass seeds.
  3. Bring both home by rocket and build a Moo ranch with Gas Grass and a Milking Station.
  4. Leave the rest of the herd; the Mooteor showers keep the asteroid stocked.

Surviving the asteroid

Visits are short. Wear suits, take the Moos and the Gas Grass, and return.

Role in the colony

The Moo Asteroid is a one-trip destination: it supplies the Gassy Moo ranch that turns grass into natural gas power at home.
