Water Asteroid guide: thousands of tonnes of water and graphite
AsteroidsEasy
How to use the submerged planetoid as the water tank of a Spaced Out! colony, with three in-game seeds.
The Water Asteroid is a tall, submerged planetoid, 80 × 174 cells, around open water with a beach at the surface, graphite caves and a barren core. The game calls it a source of liquid resources and of Graphite.
Every sample held 6,800 to 8,200 tonnes of liquid Water and two water vents.
A planetoid like this one is generated from the seed number alone: the samples below came out identical in every cluster that used the same seed, and only the distance from the start changed.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 80 × 174 cells |
| Where you find it | Every Spaced Out! cluster in this series: the Terrania, Folia and Quagmiris clusters, the five moonlet clusters, Skewed, and the classic-style clusters. It sits five to fifteen hexes from the start, depending on the cluster. |
| Biomes | Surface beach, open water, graphite caves and a barren core. |
| Guaranteed | Several aquatic geodes with water vents, a Gravitas thermo building and a starting room for visitors. |
| Peak light and radiation | 60,000 lux of sunlight and 218 rads of cosmic radiation at the surface. |
| World traits | None or one random trait. |
Strengths
- Water: thousands of tonnes of clean liquid water, more than any start asteroid holds outside its geysers.
- Two water vents per seed: hot water, salt water, polluted water or slush.
- Graphite caves and good sunlight (60,000 lux).
Weaknesses
- Duplicants must swim: tunnels flood, and suits are needed below the surface.
- Little metal or food.
What to target first after landing
- Land on the beach and build above the waterline.
- Pump water into a liquid cargo module or bottle it, and ship it home.
- Tap a water vent for a permanent supply.
Surviving the asteroid
Build above the water and pump, never dig, into the ocean. The asteroid is safe otherwise.

Role in the colony
The Water Asteroid is the reservoir of a Spaced Out! colony. On dry starts such as the Flipped or Metallic Swampy moonlets, it is the first rocket target worth planning for.
