Plan a ranch around feed, space and output
RanchingMedium
Choose a critter and its actual diet before budgeting feed, by-products and living space.
The chosen feed changes the result
Check the species, not a universal room rule

A Hatch needs 12 tiles of habitat space; eight fill a 96-tile Stable at that allowance. That is not a universal rule for every creature or an automatic verdict that the room is valid. Enclosure, required buildings, species-specific space and eggs all matter. Keep surplus eggs moving rather than allowing the breeding population to grow unnoticed.
A ranch is also part of the fuel budget
A continuously running Coal Generator consumes 600 kg of Coal per cycle. The eight clay-fed Hatches above supply 560 kg, leaving a 40 kg deficit. Add the ranch and generator to the same colony plan before assuming the coal loop is sustainable. Hauling delays or missing feed only reduce that supply.
Grazing and shearing are different jobs
Drecko can graze growing plants such as Mealwood. Growth eaten by a critter cannot also be counted as a complete food harvest. The Shearing Station handles shearing; scale regrowth, suitable atmosphere and plant growth each have their own conditions. Budget the whole habitat, not only the material collected at the station.
Keep reproduction separate from guaranteed supply
Egg chances describe the creature’s current breeding possibilities, not one fixed probability that applies to every ranch. Diet and other conditions can influence morph chances. Check the selected species and its conditions before predicting replacement stock. Grooming, feeding, reproduction and shearing are related but are not interchangeable rates.
