Verdante asteroid guide: forest start, metals and example seeds
AsteroidsMedium
How to bridge the forest start until the electrolyzer runs, and three in-game seeds with every geyser located.
Verdante starts in a forest instead of sandstone. The start biome grows Oxyfern, Arbor Tree, Mealwood (Mealwood), Hexalent and Mirth Leaf, and it is home to Pip and Shine Bugs. The game rates it Likely and warns that food and oxygen options are reduced at the start. In return the asteroid is rich in metal: every sample seed below holds about 800 to 1,100 tonnes of Aluminum Ore that Terra never has, plus iron and gold in the thousands of tonnes.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | Base game: 256 × 384 cells. Spaced Out! Verdante Asteroid: 240 × 380 cells. |
| Survival chance | Likely |
| Where you find it | Base game cluster Verdante; Spaced Out! Verdante Cluster, next to the Radioactive Terra Asteroid and five outer moonlets. |
| Starting biome | Forest: Oxyfern, Arbor Trees, Mealwood, Hexalent, Mirth Leaf, Pips and Shine Bugs. |
| Other biomes | More forest pockets (water, oxygen and metal variants), five or more marshes, jungles, oil patches, oceans and rust biomes, plus the magma core. No tundra. |
| World traits | Two to four random traits. |
| Meteor showers | Base game: iron, gold and copper showers. Spaced Out!: copper, ice and slimy showers. |
Strengths
- Metal from the start. Iron Ore, Gold Amalgam and Aluminum Ore sit in the thousands of tonnes, so refined metal and good conductive wire come early.
- Wood. Arbor Tree gives Lumber for the Wood Burner and the ethanol line, a power source Terra cannot grow.
- Rust biomes hold Rust and Bleach Stone, the inputs for rust deoxidizing and for Waterweed.
- Dirt is common, about 3,000 tonnes on each sample seed, which keeps Mealwood and the musher fed.
Weaknesses
- Less Algae than Terra: about 280 to 470 tonnes on the whole map against roughly 650 on Terra. The algae deoxidizer phase is shorter.
- No tundra means no guaranteed AETN and no natural cold sink. Cooling has to be built.
- Five or more marshes and jungles surround the forest, with slime, chlorine and heat on every side.
- Fresh Water is low, about 130 to 220 tonnes of liquid water on each sample seed. Polluted water and salt water are the real sources.
What to target first
- Cycle 1: Research Station, Outhouse and Wash Basin. Leave the Oxyferns in place; they turn your Duplicants' Carbon Dioxide into oxygen while they last.
- Cycle 1 to 3: a Oxygen Diffuser on the nearest algae, and Mealwood on Farm Tile with the forest dirt.
- Cycle 3 to 10: Microbe Musher and a Manual Generator; plan a Water Sieve early because polluted water is the main liquid.
- Cycle 10 to 25: switch to an Electrolyzer on purified water before the algae runs out.
- Cycle 20 to 40: refine the local metals in a Metal Refinery once you have coolant; Aluminum conducts heat far better than copper, which matters for every cooler you build.
Surviving Verdante
The early danger on Verdante is the gap between the end of the starting algae and a working electrolyzer. Count your algae in the first cycles and start the water purifier and electrolyzer before it runs out. Oxyferns help only while carbon dioxide reaches them, so plant them low in the base where CO2 settles.
Food is the second risk. Mealwood alone keeps three Duplicants alive but lowers morale over time. Add a second crop by cycle 15 from the seeds your Duplicants find in the neighbouring biomes.

Long-term plan
Verdante rewards an early industrial push. Purified polluted water and desalinated salt water feed the electrolyzers, metal volcanoes and the large ore deposits feed refineries, and the oil patches give petroleum for plastics. Because there is no tundra, build a steam turbine cooling loop or an Thermo Regulator loop before the refinery and the generators heat the base.
