Tundra Asteroid guide: four iron volcanoes and the Temporal Tear Opener
AsteroidsMedium
What the frozen moonlet holds, why every colony visits it, and three in-game seeds.
The Tundra Asteroid is a small frozen planetoid: ice, brine ice, polluted ice and granite around a frozen core. The game warns that Duplicants need protective gear in its harsh environment.
It holds two things every Spaced Out! colony wants: four Iron Volcano (every sample seed rolled exactly four), and the Gravitas lab with the Temporal Tear Opener, the building that ends the Spaced Out! story.
A planetoid like this one is generated from the seed number alone: the samples below came out identical in every cluster that used the same seed, and only the distance from the start changed.

| Where you find it | Every Spaced Out! cluster in this series: the Terrania, Folia and Quagmiris clusters, the five moonlet clusters, Skewed, and the classic-style clusters. It sits five to fifteen hexes from the start, depending on the cluster. |
| Biomes | Frozen surface, a frozen Gravitas area and an extremely cold frozen core. |
| Guaranteed | A Gravitas gift shop, the Temporal Tear Opener lab, and several Iron Volcanoes. |
| Peak light and radiation | 10,000 lux of sunlight and 250 rads of cosmic radiation at the surface. |
| World traits | One or two random traits. |
Strengths
- Four Iron Volcanoes, each about 200 to 375 g/s on average.
- About 1,000 tonnes of Ice plus brine ice and polluted ice: a large stored water supply.
- Wild Sleet Wheat (Sleet Wheat) by the dozens and Wheezewort for cooling.
- Wolframite on several seeds, up to about 190 tonnes.
Weaknesses
- Extreme cold: pipes freeze and Duplicants suffer without heat and insulation.
- Very low light (10,000 lux) makes solar power almost useless.
- Little dirt and almost no organics for a permanent colony.
What to target first after landing
- Land on the surface and build a heated, insulated room before staying longer than a trip.
- Find the Temporal Tear Opener lab and plan the late-game story around it.
- Tap one Iron Volcano; its heat also warms the outpost.
- Harvest Sleet Wheat seeds for a cold farm at home.
Surviving the asteroid
Treat the Tundra Asteroid as a mining and story outpost. Bring heat with you: an Iron Volcano tap doubles as the heater.

Role in the colony
The Tundra Asteroid is where Spaced Out! colonies get iron for steel without mining, and where the story ends. Visit it once for the Temporal Tear Opener and keep an outpost on an Iron Volcano.
