How to plan a base layout before you build

OxygenEasy

Plan an Oxygen Not Included base layout and compare construction materials with potential power and heat. Two Electrolyzers, one Gas Pump and one Hydrogen Generator show +320 W and 3,900 kDTU per cycle when all buildings run continuously.

What does the base layout planner add up?

The build menu shows one building's power draw and heat at a time, and the circuit panel totals power only once the buildings are built and wired. The base layout planner compares the proposed room before the first build order. Its power and heat readouts are potential values with every placed building running continuously; construction mass is listed by material category. Open a linked planner to choose each machine's active time and check the required inputs.

How do I lay out a first electrolyzer room?

Choose Electrolyzer in the building list and place two, then a Gas Pump for the oxygen line and a Hydrogen Generator for the hydrogen. Each building keeps its in-game footprint, 2 by 2 for the Electrolyzer and the Gas Pump and 4 by 3 for the generator, so the grid shows whether the set fits the space you plan to dig.

With every building running continuously, this set reads 800 W generated, 480 W drawn and a net of +320 W. Heat comes to 3,900 kDTU per cycle, and construction takes 450 kg of All Metals and 800 kg of Raw Metals. The generator's 800 kg of Raw Metals is the largest single cost, so plan that ore first.

Is one Hydrogen Generator enough for two Electrolyzers?

No. Each Electrolyzer releases about 0.112 kg/s of Hydrogen Gas, so two release about 0.224 kg/s, while one Hydrogen Generator burns 0.1 kg/s at its 800 W rating. A second generator lifts generation to 1,600 W and the net to +1,120 W. It also adds 2,400 kDTU of heat per cycle and another 800 kg of Raw Metals, and the totals change the moment it is placed. Every extra Gas Pump for the oxygen line adds 240 W to the draw.

Where does the heat come from?

Open the heat readout to see each building's contribution at continuous operation. The two Electrolyzers each add 750 kDTU per cycle and the Hydrogen Generator adds 2,400 kDTU per cycle. The Heat budget link carries the same machines, where you can choose their active time and a liquid reservoir's mass, initial temperature and target. It estimates a perfectly mixed, insulated liquid mass with a constant heat balance; it does not predict the surrounding room's temperature.

What does the planner leave out?

The grid has one layer, so wires, pipes and automation cannot share a tile with a building, and the planner does not simulate gas flow, pressure or Duplicant paths. Wire limits belong to the power planner, which compares peak draw with the 1,000 W that ordinary Wire carries; the Circuit and battery capacity link opens it with the machines already listed.

How do I share a layout?

Copy link in the Save and share panel gives an ordinary link. Whoever opens it sees the layout, the buildings it uses with links to their pages and the same totals, and can edit a copy without changing yours.
