Radioactive Ocean Asteroid guide: water, radiation and example seeds
AsteroidsHard
How to run the water-rich, radiation-heavy moonlet start, with in-game seeds and every geyser located.
Radioactive Ocean is the water moonlet start with a radiation problem. The 128 × 153 cell asteroid starts in a forest with four to six forest water pockets, next to a salt water ocean, three or more radioactive biomes and two kinds of uranium fields. The game rates its cluster, Moonlet Cluster - Radioactive Ocean, Slim, and its surface takes 375 rads of cosmic radiation, the highest of the moonlet starts.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 128 × 153 cells |
| Survival chance | Slim |
| Where you find it | Start asteroid of Moonlet Cluster - Radioactive Ocean; a non-start Radioactive Ocean Asteroid sits in the other moonlet clusters. |
| Starting biome | Forest: Oxyfern, Arbor Trees, Mealwood, Hexalent, Mirth Leaf, Pips and Shine Bugs. |
| Other biomes | Four to six forest water pockets, a deep ocean and one or more oceans, three or more radioactive biomes, uranium fields, frozen uranium fields and a small magma core. |
| Guaranteed | A Salt Water Geyser, two rolls from the water vent family, Carbon Dioxide Geysers in the uranium fields, a Gravitas monument room and a teleporter pair to the Flipped moonlet. |
| Peak light and radiation | 30,000 lux of sunlight and 375 rads of cosmic radiation at the surface. |
Strengths
- Water. On every sample seed a Salt Water Geyser sits within 40 cells of the pod, and two of the three also rolled a Water Geyser within 45 cells.
- Oxygen and food in the start: 9 to 18 Oxyferns, Mealwood and 50 to 85 wild Waterweed (Waterweed) in the ocean.
- Uranium ore (about 45 to 52 tonnes), Beeta hives and radioactive biomes for radbolt research from the start.
- Liquid Carbon Dioxide Geysers near the pod on every seed: free cold.
Weaknesses
- Radiation. The surface and the radioactive biomes expose Duplicants; rockets and surface work need protection.
- Little metal ore: Aluminum Ore around 110 to 150 tonnes and almost no iron or copper ore.
- Salt water floods if ocean pockets are opened carelessly.
What to target first
- Cycle 1: Research Station, Outhouse, Mealwood; leave the Oxyferns in place.
- Cycle 1 to 5: Microbe Musher on the forest water pockets.
- Cycle 5 to 15: tap the nearest water vent; a Desalinator on the Salt Water Geyser if no fresh vent is close.
- Cycle 10 to 30: Electrolyzer, then wall off the radioactive biomes and the uranium fields.
- Cycle 20 onward: the teleporter to the Flipped Asteroid for sulfur and Sweetles, and rockets for metal.
Surviving the Radioactive Ocean
Radiation is the threat the game's rating reflects. Keep the base inside the forest, away from the radioactive biomes, and limit surface and uranium work to short trips. Water, food and oxygen are easier here than on any other moonlet start; metal is the resource to import.

Long-term plan
The Radioactive Ocean is a water and radiation colony. Use its liquids for a large electrolyzer and farm block, run radbolt research and later a Research Reactor on the local uranium, and bring metal from the other moonlets by rocket.
