Regolith Asteroid guide: regolith, steam vents and meteor showers

AsteroidsMedium

What the cratered moonlet holds and how to handle its meteor showers, with three in-game seeds.

The Regolith Asteroid is a cold, cratered world. The game notes frequent meteor showers and plenty of Regolith, a filtration material. In the Spaced Out! style and moonlet clusters it is 160 × 96 cells; the classic-style clusters use a smaller 96 × 96 version.

Every sample held 2,100 to 3,300 tonnes of regolith, a lot of Mafic Rock, up to two steam vents and 10 to 30 Shove Vole (Shove Voles).

A planetoid like this one is generated from the seed number alone: the samples below came out identical in every cluster that used the same seed, and only the distance from the start changed.

Where you find itEvery Spaced Out! cluster in this series: the Terrania, Folia and Quagmiris clusters, the five moonlet clusters, Skewed, and the classic-style clusters. It sits five to fifteen hexes from the start, depending on the cluster.
BiomesBarren dust plains, a frozen dead oasis and barren empty caves.
GuaranteedTwo tries at a Cool Steam Vent or Steam Vent, and a bunker lab with a Neural Vacillator.
Peak light and radiation120,000 lux of sunlight, the strongest in these clusters, and 250 rads of cosmic radiation.
Meteor showersRegolith (dust), iron and ice showers.
World traitsRandom traits on some seeds, such as Frozen Core, Lush Core or Metal Rich.

Strengths

  • Regolith for filtration and for Shove Vole feed.
  • The strongest sunlight in the cluster (120,000 lux): solar panels pay off here.
  • Steam vents for water on most seeds.
  • A Neural Vacillator in the bunker lab, which gives a Duplicant a new trait.

Weaknesses

  • Meteor showers hit the surface often.
  • Cold, with little organic material.
  • On some seeds no steam vent rolls at all.

What to target first after landing

  1. Land away from the surface or protect the landing site from meteors.
  2. Use the Neural Vacillator on a Duplicant you bring along.
  3. Tap a steam vent for the outpost's water.
  4. Mine regolith and capture Shove Voles if the colony uses them.

Surviving the asteroid

Meteors are the main danger. Keep Duplicants under cover during showers and build below the surface.

Role in the colony

The Regolith Asteroid is a solar and filtration outpost, and a one-time stop for its Neural Vacillator.
