Folia asteroid guide: the Spaced Out! forest start and example seeds
AsteroidsEasy
What the forest start gives you, where the metal is in the cluster, and three in-game seeds with every geyser located.
Folia is the Spaced Out! forest start: a 160 × 274 cell asteroid that opens in a forest of Arbor Tree, Oxyfern and Pips, surrounded by rust, gassy jungles, wastelands full of Sweetles and slushy tundra. The game rates it Ideal but warns that Duplicants must leave the start biome quickly to find metal. Its cluster neighbours fix that: the Irradiated Swampy Asteroid three hexes away carries cobalt and gold volcanoes, and the teleporter leads to the Rusty Oil Asteroid.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 160 × 274 cells |
| Survival chance | Ideal |
| Where you find it | Start asteroid of the Folia Cluster in Spaced Out! |
| Starting biome | Forest: Arbor Trees, Oxyfern, Mealwood, Mirth Leaf, Pips and Shine Bugs. |
| Other biomes | Two or three more forests, two or more rust biomes, three or more slushy tundras, three or more gassy jungles, three or more wastelands, a coaly granite barren, a hospitable surface and the magma core. |
| Guaranteed vents | A Cool Steam Vent, a Hydrogen Vent or Chlorine Gas Vent in the jungle, a Cool Slush Geyser and a Cool Salt Slush Geyser, three tries at magma volcanoes, and three random geysers. |
| Guaranteed buildings | An AETN heat sink in the tundra, a Gravitas office, and a teleporter pair to the Rusty Oil Asteroid. |
| World traits | Two to four random traits; oil traits are excluded. |
| Peak light and radiation | 20,000 lux of sunlight and 125 rads of cosmic radiation at the surface. |
Strengths
- Oxygen grows in the start: Oxyferns and the forest's oxygen pockets carry the first cycles while algae is short.
- Wood from Arbor Trees for the Wood Burner and the ethanol line.
- Water is guaranteed: a Cool Steam Vent plus the cold Cool Slush Geyser and Cool Salt Slush Geyser, all within about 80 cells on the sample seeds.
- Sweetles (Sweetle) live in the wastelands, about 20 to 30 per seed, and an AETN sits in the tundra.
Weaknesses
- Metal is scarce in the start biome. Iron and copper ore sit in the outer biomes, and without Metal Rich the asteroid holds only about 500 tonnes of Iron Ore.
- Chlorine vents rolled close to the pod on all three sample seeds, two or three per seed.
- Low sunlight (20,000 lux) makes solar power weak.
What to target first
- Cycle 1: Research Station, Outhouse, Mealwood on Farm Tile; leave Oxyferns in place.
- Cycle 1 to 5: Oxygen Diffuser on the nearest algae, Microbe Musher on the start water.
- Cycle 5 to 15: the Cool Steam Vent, then an Electrolyzer.
- Cycle 10 to 30: Arbor Trees on polluted water and a Wood Burner; seal the chlorine vents near the base.
- Cycle 25 onward: rockets to the Irradiated Swampy Asteroid for cobalt and gold, and the teleporter to the Rusty Oil Asteroid for sulfur and oil.
Surviving Folia
The early game is calm; the long-term risk is a metal shortage. Spend copper only on what needs it, mine the rust biomes for Rust, and treat the neighbours as the metal supply from cycle 30 on.

Slime Molds, Frozen Core, Mixed Boulders and Metal Rich. The best Folia of the three for metal, with about 1,700 tonnes of copper ore and 1,300 tonnes of iron ore.
A Cool Steam Vent sits 32 cells from the pod at (57, 97). A Polluted Water Vent 50 cells below adds 2.8 kg/s. The Chlorine Gas Vent 35 cells above at (91, 152) is the one to wall off first.

| Geyser | Cell (x, y) | Average output | Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polluted Water Vent | 96, 70 | 2.84 kg/s | 30 ºC |
| Cool Slush Geyser | 135, 167 | 1.60 kg/s | -10 ºC |

Large Boulders, Subsurface Ocean, Crashed Satellites and Slime Molds. A Hydrogen Vent sits 29 cells above the pod at (82, 146): cool it and it powers the early colony.
Water comes from a Cool Steam Vent 46 cells away at (55, 76) and the Cool Slush Geyser 55 cells up. Crashed Satellites adds radioactive wreckage: approach it only with protection.

| Geyser | Cell (x, y) | Average output | Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Polluted Water Vent | 145, 185 | 2.98 kg/s | 30 ºC |
| Cool Steam Vent | 55, 76 | 1.55 kg/s | 110 ºC |

Geodes, Crashed Satellites, Subsurface Ocean and Slime Molds. The Cool Slush Geyser is the closest vent at 47 cells, next to a Hot Polluted Oxygen Vent at (96, 78) that needs sealing.
Two Hydrogen Vent rolls above the base, 71 and 77 cells away, give a strong power option once the colony can cool hydrogen.

The neighbours
The Irradiated Swampy Asteroid is three hexes away. On every sample seed it held two Cobalt Volcanoes, two Gold Volcanoes, two Carbon Dioxide Geysers and at least one Polluted Water Vent, with Plug Slugs (Plug Slug) and Beeta hives. The Rusty Oil Asteroid, four hexes away and linked by the teleporter, held one Liquid Sulfur Geyser on each seed, plus oil-rich rock and Slicksters.
Long-term plan
Folia is an organic start that grows into a cluster colony. Run food, oxygen and wood at home, fetch metal by rocket from the swampy neighbour, and use the Rusty Oil Asteroid's sulfur and oil for plastics and rocket fuel.
