Irradiated Forest Asteroid guide: aluminium, gold and radiation
AsteroidsMedium
What the Terrania Cluster rocket target holds, how to land safely and what to mine first, with three in-game seeds.
The Irradiated Forest Asteroid is the second asteroid of the Terrania Cluster, three hexes from Terrania. The game describes it as a sandstone and forest world with significant radiation and an abundance of metal. Its landing site is a wide barren chasm; around it lie forest, ocean, renewable metallic biomes, radioactive biomes and uranium fields, some of them extremely cold.
Every sample seed below carried the same four metal volcanoes: two Aluminum Volcano and two Gold Volcano. That makes it the aluminium source of the Terrania Cluster.
| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 128 × 153 cells |
| Where you find it | Terrania Cluster, three hexes from the start asteroid; reached by rocket. |
| Biomes | Barren chasm landing site, forest, ocean, four or more renewable metallic biomes, three or more radioactive biomes, uranium fields and frozen uranium fields. |
| Guaranteed vents | A Gold Volcano and an Aluminum Volcano, with a second try of each, Carbon Dioxide Geysers in the uranium fields, and three random geysers. The ocean tries a Salt Water Geyser. |
| Peak light and radiation | 30,000 lux of sunlight and 125 rads of cosmic radiation at the surface; the radiation hazard is the uranium inside. |
| World traits | One or two random traits. |
Strengths
- Two Aluminum Volcanoes and two Gold Volcanoes on every sample seed, about 300 g/s each on average.
- Uranium Ore for the Uranium Centrifuge and radbolt research: 70 to 85 tonnes per sample seed.
- Wolframite, about 50 to 120 tonnes, the ore for tungsten.
- A forest and an ocean give Duplicants Arbor Trees, Pacu, Pokeshells, Pips and Beeta hives to work with.
Weaknesses
- Radiation. The uranium fields and radioactive biomes expose Duplicants quickly; suits and short shifts are needed there.
- Extremely cold frozen uranium fields freeze pipes and Duplicants without insulation.
- Beeta hives (Beeta) sit in the radioactive biomes; leave them in place until the colony is ready to work with radiation.
What to target first after landing
- Land in the chasm and wall off the radioactive biomes before anyone works near them.
- Use the boon rooms the world may spawn (beds, a farm or a kitchen) for the first crew.
- Tap one Aluminum Volcano with a cooling setup and ship aluminium home by rocket.
- Mine uranium ore in short trips with Lead Suit Checkpoint lead suit checkpoints once the research allows.
- Build a Radbolt Generator near the uranium for radbolt research.
Surviving the asteroid
Treat this asteroid as an outpost, not a second home. Keep the crew small, rotate Duplicants out before radiation sickness builds up, and bring food until a farm runs in the forest part.

Role in the colony
The Irradiated Forest Asteroid turns Terrania's colony into a metal and radiation colony. Aluminium and gold come from its volcanoes, uranium feeds radbolt research and later a Research Reactor, and the forest can host a small farm for a permanent crew.
