Quagmiris asteroid guide: the Spaced Out! swamp start and example seeds
AsteroidsEasy
How to run the swamp start without germs, where the metal is, and three in-game seeds with every geyser located.
Quagmiris is the Spaced Out! swamp start. Its 160 × 274 cells open in a swamp of Mud, polluted dirt and Polluted Water, growing Mellow Mallow, Bog Bucket and wild swamp forage, with Pacu in the pools. Five or more gassy jungles, slushy tundras and wastelands surround it. The game rates the cluster Ideal, and the Irradiated Marsh Asteroid three hexes away carries aluminium and gold volcanoes.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 160 × 274 cells |
| Survival chance | Ideal |
| Where you find it | Start asteroid of the Quagmiris Cluster in Spaced Out! |
| Starting biome | Swamp: Mellow Mallow, Bog Bucket, swamp forage plants and Pacu. |
| Other biomes | Two or three more swamps, two or more beetle wastelands, a worm wasteland, five or more gassy jungles, three or more slushy tundras, a coaly granite barren, a hospitable surface and a small magma core. |
| Guaranteed vents | A Cool Steam Vent, a Hydrogen Vent or Chlorine Gas Vent, a Cool Slush Geyser and a Cool Salt Slush Geyser, three tries at magma volcanoes, and three random geysers. |
| Guaranteed buildings | An AETN heat sink in the tundra, a Gravitas office, and a teleporter pair to the Rusty Oil Asteroid. |
| World traits | Two to four random traits; oil traits are excluded. |
| Peak light and radiation | 30,000 lux of sunlight and 125 rads of cosmic radiation at the surface. |
Strengths
- Cold water right next to the pod. On all three sample seeds the guaranteed Cool Salt Slush Geyser or Cool Slush Geyser sat 31 to 37 cells from the Printing Pod.
- Food from the start biome: Bog Bucket grows in the dark, so it fits underground farms without lamps.
- Hydrogen is common: every sample seed has a Hydrogen Vent within 60 cells.
- Sweetles in the wastelands, 23 to 46 per seed, and an AETN in the tundra.
Weaknesses
- Polluted dirt, mud and polluted water mean germs. Keep food and the swamp water apart, and purify water before Duplicants drink it.
- Metal ore is thin without Metal Rich, as on Folia; the irradiated neighbour is the metal source.
- The gassy jungles bring heat and chlorine.
What to target first
- Cycle 1: Research Station, Outhouse, Wash Basin at the bathroom exit.
- Cycle 1 to 5: Oxygen Diffuser, a Bog Bucket farm in a dark room, and the Microbe Musher as backup food.
- Cycle 3 to 10: pipe the nearest slush geyser into the base; at -10 ºC it also cools the farm.
- Cycle 10 to 25: Water Sieve and Electrolyzer; a Hydrogen Generator on the nearest Hydrogen Vent.
- Cycle 25 onward: rockets to the Irradiated Marsh Asteroid for aluminium and gold, and the teleporter to the Rusty Oil Asteroid.
Surviving Quagmiris
Germs are the threat, not hunger or air. Polluted water carries food poisoning germs, and the swamp's slime and polluted oxygen spread slimelung. Build the wash basin at the bathroom exit, keep the kitchen sealed and treat every swamp pool as contaminated until purified.

Slime Molds, Frozen Core, Mixed Boulders and Metal Rich. Both cold vents sit right by the pod: the Cool Salt Slush Geyser 35 cells to the right at (115, 122) and the Cool Slush Geyser 37 cells up at (77, 153).
A Hydrogen Vent 49 cells to the left at (35, 134) covers early power. Metal Rich adds about 1,600 tonnes of copper ore and 1,300 tonnes of iron ore.

Large Boulders, Subsurface Ocean, Crashed Satellites and Slime Molds. The Cool Slush Geyser is only 31 cells below the pod at (60, 93), and the Cool Salt Slush Geyser 42 cells to the left.
Wastelands are crowded on this seed: 46 Sweetles. Two Cool Steam Vents sit 66 and 68 cells out on either side.

The neighbours
The Irradiated Marsh Asteroid held two Aluminum Volcanoes, two Gold Volcanoes and a small volcano on every sample seed, with Beetas and Pips. The Rusty Oil Asteroid at the end of the teleporter is the same world Folia gets: a Liquid Sulfur Geyser on every seed, lead, salt and Slicksters.
Long-term plan
Quagmiris rewards a clean water system early and a rocket program by cycle 30. The start feeds and waters the colony; the neighbours supply metal, sulfur and oil.
