While the Jawbo may be terrifying to behold, in truth it is quite harmless for trained handlers. A disproportionately sized mandible makes it impossible for this critter to properly chew its food, necessitating a preference for prey that are small enough to be swallowed whole. Though much of its DNA suggests that the Jawbo evolved in isolation, it does share a small number of genetic markers with serrasalmids such as the Pacu. Familial connection, however, does not preclude consideration as a food source.
