Clampum, also known as Arcticidae hafrunus, are the largest species of bivalve mollusk in the known universe. Their powerful adductor muscles and serrated shell edges are well-documented; in early scientific literature, field notes often included the words "accidental amputation." Although development of proper handling techniques has long since eliminated the danger, these anecdotes still serve as cautionary tales for newbie marine biologists.
